The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party has cleared three advanced vocational centers in Shahdara focusing on automotive, construction, and woodworking sectors.

Modern technical training and automotive education laboratory concept

The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party has formally approved three major infrastructure and education projects valued at more than Rs. 2.94 billion to set up modern technical training centers in Shahdara, Lahore.

The developmental initiative is designed to upgrade technical and vocational education infrastructure, offering formalized instruction to replace conventional informal training tracks.

Targeted Centers of Excellence

Under the approved framework, the government will establish three dedicated facilities: the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Automotive Technologies, the Modern Woodworking Service Centre, and the Centre of Excellence for the Construction Sector.

Each facility is planned to deliver hands-on, practical instruction utilizing specialized industrial machinery and contemporary workflows. The automotive institute will focus on advanced automotive systems, the woodworking center will feature modern fabrication and finishing technologies, and the construction facility will address updated building techniques.

Modernizing Technical Curricula

The new institutes aim to fundamentally reshape technical career paths for local youth. Historically, vocational skills across these trades have been acquired primarily through informal apprenticeships alongside local carpenters, masons, and independent auto mechanics.

By transitioning to structured training environments equipped with modern machinery, the initiative intends to bridge the gap between traditional manual labor and high-precision technical vocations. The targeted skill sets are expected to increase employability and substantially raise income-earning potential for graduates entering domestic and international job markets.

Budget and Financial Execution

The three specialized centers carry a cumulative estimated capital outlay of over Rs. 2.94 billion. To kick off the execution phase, the government has allocated Rs. 566 million within the current fiscal year budget.

Following the formal clearance by the Punjab Provincial Development Working Party, directives have been issued to the Punjab Finance Department to release the allocated funds to begin project implementation in Shahdara.
