Shipments of foldable AMOLED displays are projected to jump 44% year-over-year in 2026, driven by growing consumer and manufacturer interest in wider form factors, according to a recent forecast by market research firm Omdia.
A Shift Toward Wider Aspect Ratios
The anticipated expansion covers all foldable screen categories, but analysts attribute the momentum primarily to the emergence and anticipation of wider foldable designs. Recent attention has centered heavily on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple’s iPhone Duo, both of which utilize display panels supplied by Samsung.
These designs reflect an industry pivot away from the tall, narrow proportions found on hardware such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and similar devices. The wider footprint has generated substantial market visibility over recent months, establishing a clear design trajectory for future releases.
Samsung’s Panel Supply Position
Samsung currently holds a majority share of the foldable display supply market and could see its position strengthen further. Omdia projects that if current market conditions and expectations hold, Samsung’s share of total foldable display shipments could expand to roughly 66% during 2026.
This expected shift in panel demand toward Samsung and Apple is anticipated to alter the broader supplier landscape. Analysts note that Chinese display manufacturers holding significant current shipment volumes may face declines as major brand volume shifts toward the new form factor leaders.
Expanding Market Competition
Despite the concentration of display production, the device market itself is expected to draw broader competition beyond Samsung and Apple. Other manufacturers are preparing rival hardware, including Motorola, which is expected to introduce a comparable wide-format foldable device.
As other hardware makers move to adopt the dimensions established by the latest wave of wide-screen devices, the 2026 foldable segment is positioned for significant volume growth alongside shifting market shares among component suppliers.
