Pakistan International Airlines has restored direct air connectivity between Pakistan and China, ending a route disruption that lasted nearly seven months. The national carrier officially resumed its scheduled service between Islamabad and Beijing on October 30, marking the return of regular commercial operations connecting both capitals.

Restored Weekly Schedule and Hub Access

Under the newly revised operating schedule, the airline plans to operate one flight every Friday. PIA indicated that the restoration of the direct route is designed to re-establish a seamless and convenient transit link between Islamabad and Beijing for business, diplomatic, and leisure passengers.

In addition to providing regular flights between the two capital cities, the carrier is seeking to maintain a stable market presence in China by offering competitive ticket pricing across its network.

Interline Partnerships Across China

To widen passenger reach beyond Beijing, PIA has reinforced commercial cooperation agreements with three major Chinese carriers: Air China, Shenzhen Airlines, and Hainan Airlines.

Through its collaborative arrangement with Air China, passengers arriving from Islamabad can access multiple domestic destinations throughout mainland China via transfers at Beijing, which serves as a primary aviation hub for the region.

Background on Operating Cost Adjustments

The Beijing service was initially suspended in April following repeated spikes in jet fuel prices, which significantly increased operating expenditures. At the time of the closure, PIA also paused its flight operations to Kuala Lumpur as part of broader administrative cost-containment measures.

Airline officials previously stated that the carrier could not pass the full burden of escalating fuel costs directly to travelers. Consequently, route adjustments were implemented to control expenditures until conditions permitted the restoration of key long-haul services.
