The city government of Karachi has unveiled plans to construct a major new flyover on Nishtar Road, representing an estimated investment of Rs. 1 billion aimed at improving traffic conditions across the metropolitan area. The announcement was delivered by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab during a press briefing held at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Head Office.

Project Scope and Implementation Timeline

According to the municipal administration, the upcoming infrastructure scheme will be managed directly by the KMC. The official groundbreaking ceremony for the Nishtar Road flyover has been scheduled for November 20. The municipal authority intends to complete the entire construction phase within a tight 100-day window following the launch.

A notable aspect of the flyover project is its financial backing. Wahab confirmed that the KMC will execute and fund the Rs. 1 billion development entirely through its own internal financial resources, rather than relying on external financing mechanisms.

Wider Urban Infrastructure Strategy

The Nishtar Road development is integrated into a broader municipal infrastructure development program designed to upgrade Karachi’s primary transport arteries, rehabilitate roadways, and undertake vital civic works. City authorities stated that these development efforts are currently being distributed across all seven districts of Karachi to address pressing infrastructural demands.

In addition to the Nishtar Road project, the KMC is pursuing several other large-scale transit interventions independently. These include the construction of the Chakora Nullah Expressway, ongoing rehabilitation works on major arterial thoroughfares, and the establishment of designated alternative corridors designed to mitigate chronic urban congestion. City officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining the planned 100-day construction schedule for the newly announced flyover.
