OLED televisions have long delivered superior contrast and deep black levels, yet handling ambient light and reflective surfaces has historically presented a persistent design challenge. While premium flagship models have progressively integrated anti-reflective coatings and higher peak luminance to combat daytime glare, mid-range displays often struggle when placed in brightly lit living spaces. Samsung is directly addressing this persistent problem with its S90H, a mid-range OLED television that incorporates the brand’s proprietary Glare Free panel finish.
Addressing the Anti-Reflective Gap in Mid-Range Displays
For years, mirror-like reflections have represented a notable trade-off for OLED buyers. Competitors such as the LG C6 have earned praise across the industry for overall picture quality, but highly reflective glass surfaces remain an issue for viewers who do not watch in dark, light-controlled environments. While rival mid-range sets like the LG C5 and LG C6 continue to use reflective panel treatments, Samsung has brought its matte anti-glare engineering down to a lower tier.
Samsung initially debuted its Glare Free display technology in 2023, reserving the treatment exclusively for its top-tier flagship S95 OLED series. With the launch of the 2026 S90H line, the South Korean electronics maker has introduced the coating to its mid-range tier for the first time. The addition targets a specific void in the consumer market: buyers looking for the contrast advantages of an OLED without the distraction of daytime glare or the premium expense of upper-tier flagship hardware.
Bright-Room Performance and Picture Fidelity
In-person evaluations in environments exposed to significant natural morning light indicate that the Glare Free screen treatment handles ambient reflections with noticeable success. During assessments using dark films such as The Revenant, the screen preserved deep black tones while diffusing reflections from adjacent large balcony windows, mitigating the distracting mirror effect common to traditional glossy OLED panels.
Because the mid-range S90H does not match the peak brightness levels found on flagship siblings such as the S95H or S99H, its ability to maintain contrast and suppress reflections relies heavily on the panel coating itself. Beyond dark-scene performance in lit settings, the TV produces punchy HDR highlights alongside accurate, vibrant color presentation. In visually dense sequences, including the night market scene from Blade Runner: 2049, the display preserved crisp textures and lifelike detail without washing out under room lighting.
Comprehensive Gaming and Connectivity Specifications
Alongside its daylight viewing capabilities, the S90H integrates hardware and software specifications designed to appeal directly to gamers. The set comes equipped with four HDMI 2.1 ports capable of handling 4K resolution at refresh rates up to 165Hz. This level of bandwidth allows the television to serve both current-generation game consoles and high-performance gaming PCs.
The display supports comprehensive variable refresh rate protocols, including AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync, alongside Auto Low Latency Mode and HDR10+ gaming. Samsung has also packaged its proprietary Game Hub on the software side, providing integrated access to cloud gaming services without requiring connected peripheral hardware.
Pricing and Market Positioning
Originally released in April, the S90H is seeing its first round of substantial discounts during retail sales events. In the United States, the 65-inch S90H dropped to $1,497.99 on Amazon from its standard $1,897.99 retail price, representing a $400 cut that marks its lowest price point to date.
In the United Kingdom, the 55-inch configuration has been listed at Currys for £1,499, discounted from its original £1,599 launch price. Although alternatives like the 55-inch LG C5 remain lower in price in the UK market, the inclusion of the Glare Free filter on the S90H offers a distinct functional alternative for consumers whose primary viewing rooms suffer from unavoidable natural lighting.
