Apple Prepares New Hardware Lineup Ahead of October 28 Pro and Tell Event

Apple is set to introduce updated MacBook Pro models, a revamped iPad mini with OLED, and an M6 iMac at its upcoming showcase.

Following the recent introduction of HomeView alongside an updated Apple TV and HomePod mini, Apple is preparing for another wave of major hardware announcements. The company has scheduled a special launch event under the tagline ‘Pro and tell’ for October 28, where it is anticipated to unveil substantial revisions across its professional and portable device portfolio.

High-End MacBook Pro Redesign with OLED and Touchscreen

The centerpiece of the upcoming presentation is widely expected to be an overhauled MacBook Pro. Rumored specifications for the flagship notebook include an OLED display panel, touchscreen support, and the integration of the Dynamic Island interface. Rather than directly replacing the existing MacBook Pro tiers, this redesigned machine is projected to arrive as an additional, higher-end configuration positioned above current offerings. While earlier industry speculation suggested the computer might carry a ‘MacBook Ultra’ branding, the ‘Pro and tell’ theme of the event makes an Ultra moniker appear unlikely.

Entry-Level 14-Inch MacBook Pro Powered by M6

Alongside the premium touchscreen redesign, Apple is poised to refresh its base portable pro lineup with a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by an M6 silicon processor. This update follows the pattern established when Apple launched a 14-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the M5 generation last autumn. The incoming entry-tier model will remain exclusive to the 14-inch size and is not anticipated to undergo external revisions. It is expected to preserve the form factor and display technology of the existing hardware, focusing its improvements on performance gains and potential battery life extensions achieved through the greater architectural efficiency of the M6 platform.

Major iPad mini Overhaul Adds OLED and A20 Pro

Significant changes are also slated for Apple’s smallest tablet form factor. The upcoming iPad mini is projected to receive an OLED screen, which would make it the only model in the iPad family outside of the iPad Pro to adopt OLED display technology. Internal processing is expected to see a major leap, with Apple reportedly incorporating the A20 Pro chip originally featured in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.

Hardware alterations for the compact tablet extend beyond the silicon and screen. The front-facing camera module is being relocated to prioritize landscape usage over the portrait orientation of prior generations. Furthermore, the updated iPad mini is expected to feature upgraded water resistance and an improved, more powerful speaker system.

All-in-One Desktop Refresh with M6 iMac

The desktop segment will also see attention during the October 28 announcements. Apple’s iMac, which currently relies on the M4 generation of processors, is rumored to debut with an M6 chip upgrade. The silicon transition is anticipated to serve as the central change for the all-in-one computer.

Mirroring the architecture found in the currently available M6 Mac mini, the new iMac is slated to incorporate a 12-core central processing unit, a 12-core graphics processing unit, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. In addition to internal processing improvements, the company is expected to present a refreshed array of exterior color finishes across the M6 iMac family.
