Valve has rolled out an update to Steam achievements, introducing a feature called achievement sets that allows game developers to organize milestones into distinct categories for base titles and downloadable content.
Under the new structure, the fundamental unlocking mechanics remain unchanged. Players continue to earn achievements by playing games as usual. However, the browsing experience following an unlock has been reorganized to provide a clearer breakdown of accomplishments.
Organized Progression and Profile Trophies
According to Valve, Steam can now partition long lists of game milestones into developer-configured sets. The company noted that this setup makes it easier for players to see what they have completed and to identify related achievements they can unlock next.
Each achievement set comes equipped with its own dedicated progress bar. Players who successfully finish an entire set receive a set complete trophy that is displayed on their Steam profile.
Seasonal Sets and Page Refresh
The system also accommodates seasonal achievement sets that developers can archive once an event concludes. Valve highlighted that this feature allows studios to take advantage of temporary content, including milestones tied to season-based titles or time-limited holiday achievements.
In tandem with the sets feature, Valve is refreshing the overall Steam Achievements page. The updated interface provides a high-level summary of total progress, visibility into individual set completion, and detailed information for specific achievements.
A select group of titles already supports achievement sets. The updated achievement features are currently accessible to participants using the latest Steam client beta.
