Sustainable electronics manufacturer Fairphone is preparing to unveil its next-generation wireless audio product, the Fairbuds 2, with a full reveal scheduled for October 14. The official confirmation comes shortly after online leaks pointed to a major product redesign earlier this month, followed by a teaser posted to social platform X.
Modular Architecture and Audio Upgrades
Serving as the first follow-up to the original Fairbuds that debuted two years ago, the upcoming Fairbuds 2 will maintain the company’s core emphasis on consumer repairability. Fairphone confirmed that the new earbuds are built with seven fully replaceable and modular parts, continuing the repair-friendly hardware design introduced in the initial release.
Alongside mechanical repairability, the device will incorporate notable upgrades to its wireless audio capabilities. The Fairbuds 2 will expand Bluetooth transmission support to include Sony’s high-resolution and adaptive LDAC codec. This is a technical step up from the first-generation Fairbuds, which were limited to standard SBC and AAC codecs, similar to the codec profile used in Apple AirPods.
Release Schedule and Lower Introductory Pricing
Fairphone plans a phased geographic rollout for the new model. The Fairbuds 2 will debut first in European markets at a retail price of €119, followed by an official release in the United States priced at $119.
The €119 price point marks a more accessible entry price compared to the product line’s debut. The first-generation Fairbuds arrived on the market in 2024 priced at €149, or approximately $162 at the time of launch. Since then, the original earbuds have experienced price reductions, currently retailing in the United States for $99.99.
